I admire the work of photographers such as Eve Arnold, Lee Miller, Vivian Maier and Sophie Calle. I am inspired by everyday objects and tend to take photographs of things I want to paint, using the images as a kind of visual notebook. I enjoy unusual angles and try to transfer my perception of the captured scene into an abstract development on the canvas. I try to swap ideas around whilst keeping true to the reason I reached for my camera in the first place. I have included the original photographs as interesting reference material, where a painting began, but, as much as the creative process is important and fascinating, these photographs are also simply to enjoy.
